I would not include desks in my classroom because I believe that students learn better in a more comfortable environment.
I would do the lunch count online when calling attendance because it is the most efficient way to do it. You have to take attendance, and you have to send the lunch count online, so I think it’s just better to kill two birds with one stone.
I will use SeeSaw for the assignments they do on their devices and have a turn-in tray for any assignments they do on paper.
Comments can be made on SeeSaw and the students can see these comments immediately so I would do this for the device assignments, and I would put the paper assignments in their mailboxes to get the next day.
I would put their graded work in their mailboxes to take home the next day.
My general classroom rules would be – any school rules already in place plus a general respect for myself and for classmates.
Unless the students prove that they cannot be trusted, I will allow them to go to the bathroom when they need to. School is meant to be preparation for the real world, and in the real world people don’t have to ask to use the bathroom. As long as students can handle the freedom, they should have it.
We would simply line up and walk down quietly to our next destination.
Most discipline issues that happen in typical classrooms is simply friends goofing around with each other. I would separate students who can’t handle being around each other without causing a disruption, and I will call home if any student or group of students becomes a big issue.
I would have small learning centers to make sure the whole class is kept on the same page and that no one student is being left behind.
I will be sure to keep a schedule of which students are gone from the classroom and where they should be at all times.
I would have us begin to pack up with about fifteen minutes left before dismissal and then give the students the option of whether they want to read quietly, have quiet conversations, or help clean up the classroom before we line up to walk down to the buses – I will dismiss car riders and after care students when they are called down.
I will contact parents via email or calling them if necessary, and I will only contact them if I need to discuss their child’s behavior, after school plans, or if I’m sending a reminder for some event.
If I feel a student needs extra help or to work on something at home, I will ask the parents to do simple things, such as having their child read for a certain amount of time after school.
