Dear Parents of Miss Kline’s Class:
Hello! My name is Olivia Burke and I am a senior atHamilton Southeastern High School. I am so excited to say that I am a part of the Cadet Teaching program at HSE and I am working this year with your child’s class. If you are not familiar with the Cadet Teaching program, I will further explain it in the rest of the letter!
Being a Cadet Teacher can easily be compared to being a student teacher in college, but unfortunately I only get to spend a few hours of the day teaching, rather than the full day. Every afternoon at 1:20, I leave HSE and head over to Harrison Parkway to help Miss Kline’s class during their writing block and reading block. I listen to Miss Kline’s lesson and instructions for the class and then help individual students as well as small groups of students as they do their daily assignments. Each month, I create my own lesson plan for a single lesson based on Indiana’s state curriculum for 3rd grade reading or writing, as well as Miss Kline’s plans for that lesson. This is a great opportunity for me to gain experience in teaching, but it is also an excellent opportunity for the students in the class, who now have even more attention focused directly on what they need in order to be successful this school year!
Have a great evening and a wonderful school year!
Olivia Burke
