Student Observation #2
Personal Characteristics of One Student
Child selected: Sam
1. How did this child react to frustration or disappointment? Describe thoroughly.
He seems unsure of himself the majority of the time; it’s almost as though he is unsurprised when he makes a mistake, but he is pretty hard on himself… He just seems deflated.
2. How did this child react to praise?
He will get the brightest smile in the world when he is acknowledged for something good he has done. He has a behavior chart, and the first time he got 100% on it was incredible; you could tell his smile was completely genuine because he was so proud of himself.
3. What signs of independence/dependence were seen in this child?
He doesn’t show much independence during work time. Most of the time he requires someone to be there with him to keep him focused and on track or he will get distracted by small things like his glasses or the patterns in the carpet or on the walls.
4. Did this child perform any “random act of kindness” to another child?(Describe if seen)
He doesn’t seem to be very close friends with anyone in the class, although I suspect he wants very badly to be. He doesn’t quite “fit in” with everyone else, but he often goes out of his way to ask different people how they are doing and things like that.
5. Describe the vocabulary of this child> (Advanced, foul, incomplete sentences, “surprising” vocabulary for age)
The majority of his vocabulary has been age-appropriate from what I have gathered.
