Who Am I?
I was born on March 16, 1999 in Fishers, Indiana, where I have lived for my
entire life. I’m seventeen years old and I live with my parents and my younger brother,
Nicholas. My older brother, Jacob, recently moved out of our house because he now goes
to college at Ball State University. My dad is one of the managers at Freedom Mortgage,
a computer service company, and my mom is the principal of Harrison Parkway
Elementary here in the Hamilton Southeastern school district. We have a small white dog
named Sydney, who is now six years old. My dad’s family comes from Pittsburgh, so we
are Penguins fans and Steelers fans. My mom’s family, on the other hand, comes from
Illinois. Every summer, travel with our family to our lake house in Canada.
I have played hockey since I was nine and I now play for a U19 women’s team
based out of Carmel. We travel all around the Midwest and east coast. We have gone to
many places from Pittsburgh to Omaha and everywhere in between for hockey. For the
past two years, I have been a captain of my team. I am a part of the Harry Potter Club here
at HSE and I play Quidditch for Slytherin House. I am in Royal Sensation choir because I
really enjoy singing, even sometimes writing my own music. I play piano, flute, accordion, and
harmonica. Music is my favorite thing in the world and I listen to all kinds of music.
Some of the more significant events which have helped shape who I am today are
the trips I take with my family. Every summer we drive for 20 hours to get to our lake
house in Northwestern Ontario, where we spend a month unplugged in a log cabin. We
are a fairly close family and we enjoy doing some of the activities up there together such
as fishing, swimming, hiking, and blueberry picking. I also go to a Christian camp called
Jumonville every summer with my brothers and my grandma. The camp is in the
mountains of Pennsylvania and I love spending time with the people up there. This has
definitely impacted my life for the better because it has helped me learn how to hold onto
relationships with people who live hundreds of miles away, and who I only see for one
week every year.
I went to Brooks School Elementary for Kindergarten through fourth grade. My
fourth grade teacher, Miss Young was my favorite teacher of all time. The characteristics
that made Miss Young the best teacher I’ve ever had were her spontaneity in relation to
the activities we did in class every day and her involvement with each one of the
students. She always cared very deeply for our happiness and our achievements inside the
classroom and out. The most important thing she did was that she really got to know
every student individually. My favorite way to phrase this is to say that she taught the
kids, not the class; she taught each student to his or her potential rather than expecting the
entire class to be at the same academic level at all times. Looking back, Miss Young is
the teacher who most had a hand in inspiring me to be a teacher as well.
In the future, I hope to study science. I have many different plans for life, but one
of the more prominent plans I have is to teach science. I love biology and environmental
sciences and I would love to pass on my passion to other students who are in the same
position I was in a few years ago. My life is not exactly planned out to a T, but I know
that my future will include one if not both of these subjects. I am hoping to move
somewhere closer to the ocean because marine biology fascinates me.
Along the same lines, one of the outstanding concerns that I have about life is that
I have an idea of what I want my future to look like, but absolutely no idea how to get to
that point. For my whole life, I have just gone with the flow and done whatever seemed
like a good idea at the time, but now I have to plan out my life for years in the future and
I have little to no experience with planning ahead for things
entire life. I’m seventeen years old and I live with my parents and my younger brother,
